Concept

Part of the EFG London Jazz Festival 2018 and performed at Cadogan Hall, The band consisted of Steve Fishwick on trumpet, Dave O’Higgins on tenor saxophone, Rob Barron on piano, Dario De Lecce on bass and Matt Fishwick on the drums. This project was formed to perform the timeless compositions of two pianist/composers associated with the Hard Bop era of jazz and the Blue Note Record label: Cedar Walton and Duke Pearson. We were there to capture the event.

Execution

A great afternoon of swinging tunes from the hard bop era played by five of London's top jazz musicians. We photographed the first half of the packed event hosted in the Culford Room at Cadogan Hall, focusing on moments between the artists and with the audience as they performed.

Result

Some of the tunes performed have become jazz standards (Walton’s Bolivia and Ugetsu, and Pearson’s Jeanine for example) and there is a great wealth of material by these composers that is very rarely played. This project redressed the balance, bringing this music to a new audience and generally celebrated the work of these great jazz artists. The created photographs wer used in press and promotional material for all associated companies.
