The London Korean Film Festival 2024

The Concept

This year, the London Korean Film Festival (LKFF) celebrated its 19th edition as the largest Korean film festival outside of Korea. The festival highlighted the depth and diversity of Korean cinema, especially through special strands like “Cinema Now” and “Women’s Voices,” celebrating 15 years of Korean female directors. TODDCS was there to capture and amplify the essence of this festival. The goal was to convey the energy and cultural significance of LKFF to a broader audience, driving awareness, engagement, and attendance for this year and future editions.

The Execution

To achieve maximum impact, we implemented a multi-layered content strategy that included dynamic video production, photography, and on-site interviews. Key elements of our execution included:

Director Interviews: Conducting on-site interviews with directors like Kim Da-min (“FAQ”) and Kim Hye-young (“It’s Okay!”) allowed us to add a personal and authentic layer to the festival’s narrative. By capturing their thoughts on their work and the industry, we gave audiences a glimpse into the creative minds shaping Korean cinema today.

Highlights Videos: High-energy highlight reels from the opening ceremony and screenings were crafted to emphasize the festival’s lively atmosphere. These videos showcased attendee reactions, iconic scenes from “Victory” by Park Beom-su, and the buzzing crowd at venues like the BFI and Southbank Centre. The videos aimed to replicate the in-person experience, fostering a connection with remote and prospective attendees.

Photography: Capturing the locations, audience reactions, and key moments in still imagery was essential. Photos from the BFI and Southbank Centre locations were used in videos and as stand-alone documentation, giving a tangible sense of the festival’s setting.

The Impact

This approach created a significant impact for LKFF, both on-site and online:

Enhanced Brand Visibility: The assets were shared across social media, drawing attention to the LKFF and the Korean Cultural Centre UK. Audiences were able to experience the festival’s energy virtually, fostering a global presence and attracting future attendees.

Increased Engagement and Retention: The combination of live videos, interviews, and photography proved highly engaging. Video content garnered shares and comments, as fans resonated with directors’ insights and shared experiences from the festival. TODDCS provided high-quality visuals that captured memorable moments and created emotional touchpoints, increasing message retention.

Documented Cultural Heritage: By preserving key festival moments, we created a cultural document that goes beyond a one-time event. These assets serve as a visual archive for LKFF and as promotional materials for future iterations, strengthening its presence as a landmark event in Korean and international cinema.

The produced content was leveraged across digital platforms, providing shareable assets reinforcing the LKFF’s brand while spotlighting the venues’ role in hosting a global cultural event.
