The Hoover Dam

Originally the Boulder Dam, the Hoover Dam was later renamed during the Truman administration. Not too far from Vegas and an impressive spectacle of human engineering. It has three jobs - control flooding, providing irrigation and producing hydro electric power and it continues to power a large percentage of California to this day. The surround areas of the dam are just as naturally impressive - Valley of Fire State Park being a good example.
