Concept

Korea's best singer-songwriters live in London! The K-Music Showcase returned to Rich Mix with three of Korea's most exciting musical talents. Every year the Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK) presents the latest musical talent from Korea at the K-MUSIC SHOWCASE. For 2019, the KCCUK invited three rising singer-songwriters from across the musical spectrum. Making their London debut were YESEO (electronica), george (R&B), and Dabda (Rock). Our task was to use existing footage and create an overall trailer for the event and individual 'sampler' and 'message' videos for each band.

Execution

Each band's footage was very different in style and content. We created a theme that could run through a series of videos and unified them under the banner of the event. This was then refined to the specification of the KCCUK. Booking information, subtitles and supporting logos were included in the design.

Dabda

Dabda are a rock band whose pastel, psychedelic music presents poetic lyrics and dreamy sounds. Dabda have shown their musical potential at big music festivals in Korea such as the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival, the Ultimate Music Festival, and Zandari Festa. They were awarded the ‘Grand Prize’ for being Pentaport’s ‘Super Rookies’ in 2018. Dabda will take you on a musical journey with hits from their beloved EP ‘Island of Each’.

george

george is a R&B singer-songwriter and producer, and one of the fastest rising artists in Korea at the moment. george’s single Swimming Pool was selected as one of the ‘Best of 2018’ by Apple Music Korea’s editors, and his EP Cassette climbed all the way to the top of Apple Music’s R&B Chart. Before his debut, george had established a strong bond with the public through social media. Word spread quickly and it wasn’t long before musicians started to contact him to make music together. With his memorable and versatile voice, he brought his witty, and happy vibes to London.

YESEO

YESEO is an electronic producer and singer-songwriter, and one of the most ambitious young musicians in Korea. Her music is based on alternative sounds, that are enveloped by the artist’s lighter-than-air vocals drifting over trembling chords. Honey, Don’t Kill My Vibe, the title song of YESEO’s first full album took the award for ‘Best Dance and Electronic Song of the Year’ at the 2019 Korean Music Awards. YESEO has also been featured on BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing, Nylon magazine, and Noisey magazine.

Each a fresh face on Korea’s music scene, these three artists are ready to make a name for themselves internationally. The K-Music Showcase is presented in partnership with Liverpool Sound City and Brighton’s The Great Escape Festival, the UK’s leading independent festivals for new music. george and Dabda performed at Sound City just before the Showcase and shortly after YESEO will took to the stage in Brighton at the The Great Escape. Dabda hit the road when they joined a music festival in Poland.
